Az Iron Maiden 1980. április 14-én jelent meg az EMI gondozásában, az Egyesült Királyságban. A 4. helyig jutott el a helyi toplistákon, majd pár hónappal később sorra került az Egyesült Államok beli megjelenés is, eredetileg a Harvest/Capitol Records jóvoltából, későbbiekben a Sanctuary Records/Columbia Records által, ez a kiadás már tartalmazta a Sanctuary című dalt is. 1998-ban újra kiadásra került az album.
